CBHC Member Spotlight: Spaulding Youth Center

Spaulding Youth Center (SYC) has served children and families from a variety of backgrounds with an array of needs for almost 150 years. Spaulding’s mission is to support exceptional children and families towards a successful future. We are a leading provider of educational, residential, therapeutic and foster care programs and services for children with neurological, emotional, behavioral, learning or developmental challenges, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, along with those who have experienced significant trauma, abuse or neglect. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, SYC continuously develops programs, services and expertise in response to changing needs of children who need a place where they can safely learn, live, grow, play and heal. Throughout the year welcomes about 150 boys and girls from ages 5 to 21. Our school, dedicated to serving children with special needs, offers education from K-12, serving up to 55 students who live with us residentially as well as up to another 45 who are day students. We also serve families in the community based on their children being students at Spaulding or for those who are interested in Foster Care.

Our campus is located on almost 500 scenic hilltop acres in Northfield, NH and we are one of the top tax payers in town. As one of the larger employers in the area, we employ almost 250 staff, many of whom have been with Spaulding their entire careers. We employ a wide variety of staff ranging from Special Education Teachers, Clinicians, Residential Assistants, Dining Services, IT and much more. The professional staff instills study skills, social skills, independent living skills, vocational skills, and a dedicated learning environment that helps a child reach his or her full potential. We are funded via DHHS/DCYF, School Districts/DOE and Medicare, so closely watch state budget processes and federal mandates related to funding and regulatory changes. We are also licensed or certified by several state agencies so again are involved with changes that may impact our students, families or staff.
