National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI - NH)

NAMI New Hampshire (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a grassroots non-profit organization of families, consumers, professionals, and other members. NAMI NH is dedicated to improving the quality of life of persons of all ages affected by mental illness and/or serious emotional disorders.  With affiliates around the state, NAMI NH offers support, education and advocacy to family members, parents, and caregivers who have a loved one with mental illness.

Parents Meeting the Challenge (PMC) is an 8-session educational program that provides parents and primary caregivers the opportunity to learn, share, and connect with others who face similar challenges in caring for children/adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders. PMC provides tools, strategies, and information to help parents and caregivers to meet the challenges of parenting/taking care of a child with emotional and behavioral disorders, to navigate the system, and to advocate for their child’s mental health needs.

We also offer one-to-one support by a Family and Community Support Specialist who has lived experience as a family member of a child or youth with a serious emotional disorder.  They can provide coaching, education, mentoring, support, and encouragement to parents and caregivers.

In addition, we have an Information and Resource Line at 1-800-242-6264 where callers are connected with a trained staff person who can help answer questions and provide information on NAMI NH programs and supports as well as contact information for local and national resources. PLEASE NOTE:  This is not a hotline or crisis service and is only staffed during weekday business hours.
